A non-stop reading of the great American classic,
commemorating the anniversary
of the departure from the whaling port of New Bedford
of the ship Acushnet
with 21-year old Herman Melville aboard.

Friday, January 3, 1997

starting at 8 bells in the afternoon watch
(4:00 p.m. for lubbers)
in front of the giant Moby-Dick mural in the
Lagoda Room


Grog and savories will be served at 4 bells in the 1st dog watch (6:00 p.m.), a Ship's Fare buffet at 8 bells in the 2nd dog watch (8:00 p.m.), coffee at 8 bells in the evening watch ( midnight), grog at 8 bells in the midwatch (4:00 a.m.) and breakfast at 8 bells in the morning watch (8:00 a.m.)

Come join with us in this celebration of our heritage. Come at any time, leave at any time. Everyone who attends may have a crack at reading

a 10-minute (or more) section of the novel. Let us know when you want to read by filling out the coupon below (or just show up - we'll fit you in.)

Members of the Society, or other maritime museums, students with ID and readers with reservations: free; all others: regular museum admissions.
